Scholarship Applications Available

Any Good Shepherd member who is pursuing a technical college degree or a 4-year undergraduate degree is invited to apply by sending all necessary application materials to the Good Shepherd Scholarship Committee by April 1st.  Applications will include a letter of interest, a transcript, and at least one letter of recommendation.

Students may receive funds only once per educational degree cycle.  However, students pursuing higher education degrees who may have received scholarships for their undergraduate degrees will be considered for The Good Shepherd Trust Foundation scholarships only if scholarship funds are available.

The GS Scholarship Committee will consist of the Youth Director and 2 representatives from the Parish Education Committee.  The two selections from the Parish Education Committee will be made by the Parish Education Committee Chairperson and Youth Director.  Any member of the Parish Education Committee or the Youth Director who has a conflict of interest will withdraw from the scholarship committee.  Members of the selection committee will remain anonymous to everyone but the pastor and any office staff.

Applications will be blind, meaning all personal information will be redacted.  This will be done by either office staff or a member of the Parish Education Committee who has removed themself.  Each application will then be assigned a letter for identification purposes.

All applicants will be ranked by committee members as 1, 2, 3, etc.  Applicant names and numbers will be sent to the office staff. Each applicant will be assigned a number.  Scholarship members will rank all applicants and submit those rankings to Parish Ed Leader, Youth Leader, and Office Staff.

If more than one applicant receives the same ranking, the scholarship committee, the Pastor, the Youth Leader, and the Parish Education Leader will meet to discuss the two applicants.  The applicants involved will be re-ranked by those individuals.

The highest-ranking applicant will receive the Mattes Scholarship, and the second-highest will receive the Anderson Scholarship.  At this time, those applicants will be removed from the pool so WELCA can make their selection.  Finally, the remaining applicants will be considered for the Good Shepherd Trust Foundation Scholarships.

Scholarships for consideration include:

  • JL Mattes $1000.00

  • Anderson $1000.00 (can be split)

  • WELCA $500.00

  • Good Shepherd Trust Foundation (0-3 scholarships) $500.00 (can be split)
