Finding the Balance: Lessons from Mary and Martha

Our Sunday School students recently wrapped up their unit on the story of Mary and Martha, discovering an important lesson about balance in our daily lives and faith.

Through this story, students learned that there are moments when we need to be like Martha—working hard, helping others, and getting things done. Martha’s dedication reminds us that serving and caring for others is an important part of living out our faith.

At the same time, they also learned the value of being like Mary. Mary chose to sit, listen, and spend time with Jesus. Her example teaches us that it is just as important to pause, reflect, and focus on our relationship with God.

The lesson helped students see that both roles matter. Life calls for times of action and times of quiet listening. By understanding the example of Mary and Martha, our Sunday Schoolers are learning how to balance service with reflection in their own lives.

It was a thoughtful and meaningful unit, and we’re proud of our students for the curiosity and enthusiasm they brought to the lesson.
