The Confirmation Program at Good Shepherd

At Good Shepherd, our Confirmation Program is designed to deepen faith formation in youth by giving them meaningful experiences, spiritual vocabulary, and the confidence to live out God’s promises boldly. We help students recognize how the Holy Spirit is actively at work in their lives.

The program spans three years—6th through 8th grade—and combines large-group teaching with small-group discussions led by a dedicated team of adult mentors. Mission trips focused on learning and service are also an integral part of the journey.

  • Confirmation at Good Shepherd nurtures a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a deeper connection to the church community. While Sunday School introduces key Bible stories, Confirmation explores how those stories connect with students’ lives and how Lutheran theology uniquely shapes our understanding of Scripture.

  • Confirmation meets weekly on Wednesday evenings from September through February. Each session blends large-group lessons and small-group discussions, supported by videos, Bible readings, and interactive activities. We follow a three-year rotating curriculum using Here We Stand, re:Form, and Echo the Story.

  • Regular participation in worship is essential to lifelong faith. Youth are strongly encouraged to attend services and are required to complete eight worship notes each year to reflect on sermons and the worship experience. A guided form with prompts is provided to support this reflection.

Youth also serve in worship through ushering and scripture reading. A schedule is created based on preferences submitted on registration forms.

  • Following Christ’s example of love and service, all students complete at least eight hours of community service each year. These hours can be fulfilled through church activities, school programs, or individual efforts. Many students go above and beyond this minimum requirement.

  • Once a month, small groups meet separately for a night of fellowship or service, decided in collaboration with their group guide. These evenings help students build strong, lasting friendships. These gatherings typically occur on the first Wednesday of the month.

Each group also volunteers once per year at Bethany Riverside Care Center by helping with BINGO. Other activities for the remaining fellowship nights are chosen by the group.
